Sharing Gratitude in the Classroom Logo

Meet Lisa

Lisa has been fascinated by languages and cultures for as long as she can remember. She was extremely fortunate to enjoy international travel with her family as a child and has great memories of hosting exchange students in their home...some of whom have become lifelong friends. Lisa received her bachelor’s degree in French from the University of Notre Dame and then completed a master’s degree in Second Languages and Cultures (French & ESL) at the University of Minnesota.

Lisa has been blessed to turn her passion for languages and cultures into a career. She has taught both French and English to multi-lingual learners in a variety of settings, from kindergarten to adult learners. Currently, Lisa is an adjunct professor at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she teaches courses on Second Language Acquisition, supervises student teachers, and directs an academic resource center.

Other roles

For the past 25 years, Lisa has also worked with the St Paul Intercultural Institute, directing the winter homestay program for Japanese college students from three universities. In this role, she’s responsible for creating the curricula, matching students with host families, training new staff, and managing the program during the 3-week period. Lisa has traveled to Japan three times and is truly enamored with this beautiful culture and its people. She has also felt immense gratitude for the hundreds of families in the Twin Cities/Hudson metro area who, over the years, have opened their homes to her students.

Outside of the classroom, Lisa’s favorite place to be is in the kitchen! She works part-time at a kitchen store, Grand Fete, in downtown Hudson, Wisconsin.

In all these areas, Lisa strives to share her practice of gratitude with her students and colleagues, encouraging them to focus on the abundance in life. She also shares this mindset with her husband of 25 years, Steve, and her two young adult children, Luke and Noah.
