Teachers are called to give of themselves on a daily basis. It’s no secret that this is not an easy task—lesson planning, managing challenging student behavior, and grading can take a lot of time and energy. Intentionally choosing a lens of gratitude can help transform how teachers view the circumstances in their personal lives as well the school environment.
Lisa is a lifelong educator whose mother taught her how to teach in their family dance studio while she was in middle school; she has been teaching in a variety of different settings ever since. Regardless of the content or context, Lisa strives to share her practice of gratitude with her students and colleagues, encouraging them to focus on the abundance in life.
Written from the heart of a compassionate and experienced educator, this journal aims to nurture the spirit of anyone who works with students. This book guides the participant through weekly prompts organized around rich, monthly themes while offering easy-to-implement activities that promote community and connection in the classroom. In working through these exercises, readers can deepen their own personal sense of gratitude which then increases their capacity and readiness to share these reflections with their students and colleagues.
The journal is organized into nine monthly themes which correspond to the academic calendar. Each month includes:
Weekly thematic prompts to guide reflection during each week of the month.
Ideas for sharing gratitude with others in one’s personal life
Ideas for sharing gratitude with colleagues and students

This journal is gold for teachers and administrators and frankly all school communities. When people cultivate gratitude in an intentional manner, everyone benefits from the improved climate. I think this gratitude journal is brilliant.

As a 7th-grade Literature teacher, I am committed to creating a positive and mindful learning environment. This gratitude journal offers practical tools to enhance classroom culture and student well-being, which I believe to be essential to being ‘ready to learn.’ Given the demanding nature of teaching, ready-to-use, impactful lessons are essential. This journal provides just that. I wholeheartedly recommend it!
